Dispose of Musical Instruments Right

Musical instruments, including guitars, keyboards, pianos, drum sets, wind, and brass, can be donated to a community service organization that will use the items or sell them to support the organization's mission.

Unwanted, usable musical instruments can also be posted on Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Freecycle, or donated to a local school.

For a list of Donation Locations, see below.

Pianos, Keyboards, Organs, and Large Instruments

If a piano, keyboard, or organ is still usable, consider donating it for reuse. Local organizations or individuals may be interested, even if it needs to be refurbished. See the list of organizations below or connect with the Beethoven Foundation or Pianos for Education. Additionally, Spirit of Harmony does not accept pianos but provides guidance for donations and will assist in finding a local program willing to accept the donation

If the item is unusable or you cannot find an organization to accept it as a donation, it should be placed in the trash. Contact your city service department or waste hauler for information about bulky waste pickup in your community.

If your community will not allow the items at the curb, trash and bulky items can be hauled to a local waste transfer station, or contact a junk removal company that will haul items away for a fee. See details. You will pay a disposal fee at these locations.
