Dispose of Trash Right

Cuyahoga County does not own a landfill or waste transfer facility. Also, there are no open solid waste landfills in the county.

Excess Waste or Debris

City service departments in Cuyahoga County offer bulky waste pickup for residents. If you have excess waste and debris or questions about trash service, contact your city service department for details about setting excess trash at the curb or bulky waste removal.

Trash or bulky waste can be delivered to a solid waste transfer station for a fee. Solid waste is offloaded at a waste transfer station and reloaded onto larger vehicles for shipping to a landfill. See a list of waste transfer stations in Cuyahoga County.

The Hoarding Connection of Cuyahoga County offers resources for professional services and large-scale cleanouts. Several private companies will provide dumpsters, containers, and personnel for large and small cleanouts:

If you hire a rubbish removal company, ask where the waste will be disposed of and request dump tickets to ensure it was properly disposed of at a landfill, waste transfer station, or recycling facility rather than illegally dumped.

Pet Waste
Pet waste should be bagged and placed in the regular trash. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District offers guidance about water quality and pet waste pickup. See their website to learn more and order Pick Up Poop yard signs.
