Dispose of Holiday Lights Right in Mayfield Village

In 2026, Mayfield Village will have a drop-off for holiday lights on January 24-31, April 18-25, July 18-25, and October 17-24 at the Mayfield Village Service Garage. Hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM-3:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM.

Service Garage: 610 SOM Center Road, Mayfield Village

Do not place holiday lights, power cords, power strips, or strings of lights in curbside recycling.

Holiday lights and power cords are tanglers that cannot be included in your home recycling bin. Strings of lights cause problems and shutdowns at the local material recovery facilities (MRFs or recycling sorting facilities) that accept curbside recycling materials.

Year-Round Drop-Off at the Solid Waste District

Recycle your broken, burned-out strings of lights, power strips, and power cords year-round at the Solid Waste District. The District accepts strands of lights at 4750 East 131 Street in Garfield Heights. Drop off light strings in the building vestibule during business hours Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.

No bags, boxes, or containers in the recycling bin, please. Place items loose in our vestibule drop box and take all bags, boxes, and containers home with you. Light strings are recycled by a Cleveland company to benefit the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Lights for Lions program. Artificial trees, solar lights, and outdoor spotlights are not accepted.

The District has collected and recycled holiday lights and light strings since 2012.

See other collection programs at the Solid Waste District.

Seasonal Drop-Offs

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo collects Lights for Lions to support lion and cheetah conservation efforts. Drop-off bins are at the Zoo gates from mid-November through late January.

Some city service departments accept holiday lights from residents in the winter months. To find collection information for your community, use this website’s geolocation services or choose your community from the green ‘Select a City’ drop-down at the top of the page and click 'See Details.'

During the Christmas season, some home improvement stores have collection bins for holiday lights. Check at your local store. Christmas Light Source and HolidayLEDs also offer recycling and rebate programs for strings of lights.
