Large Appliances

Large appliances, including refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, grills, and laundry units, can be set out for recycling during your city's bulky waste collection. Check with your community.

If you're having a new appliance delivered, consider paying the appliance removal fee so your old appliance is hauled away for recycling. Best Buy offers a Standalone Haul-Away Service for large appliances, TVs, and all-in-one computers and monitors. They also have an in-store recycling program for smaller appliances and electronics.

Large and small appliances may be recycled at local scrap metal yards. See the Business Locations list below for appliance recyclers in the area.

Small Appliances

  • Best Buy accepts some small appliances and electronics in-store for recycling. See a list of items
  • Staples stores accept some small appliances and electronics in-store, including coffee brewers, for recycling. See a list of items.
  • Hamilton Beach accepts and recycles nonfunctioning Hamilton Beach products through a mail-back program. See details.

  • Republic Services offers a pre-paid Electronics Recycling Mail-Back Program for small appliances, especially those containing rechargeable batteries.

Appliances with Refrigerant

Air conditioning units, freezers, and dehumidifiers contain coolant. Homeowners must hire an HVAC technician or Freon removal service before recycling an appliance with refrigerant or coolant. Learn more about recycling appliances with refrigerant.

Water Filters

Do not place water filters in your curbside recycling cart or bin.

Some water filters can be recycled through Terracycle or another mail-back service. Earth911 offers tips and options for recycling water filters. You can also contact the manufacturer of your water filter for information about a recycling program. If you are unable to find an acceptable recycling option, water filters should be placed in the regular trash.

Donate

Good, working appliances can be donated to local community service organizations that use the items to support their work. See the list below for Donation Locations.
