Mattresses
There are no local recycling options for mattresses. If the mattress cannot be donated or reused, contact your community about bulky waste pick-up.
Currently, there are no local recycling options for mattresses, air mattresses, box springs, and memory foam mattress toppers.
Donate
Sometimes mattresses can be donated if they are in good condition. In Cuyahoga County, the Cleveland Furniture Bank and I'm In Ministry will accept good, used mattresses for reuse. Mattresses should be clean and free from stains, spills, rips, or damage. Bed frames may also be accepted.
Disposal
If you're having a new mattress delivered, pay the mattress removal fee so the old mattress is hauled away for disposal.
If a mattress cannot be reused, and you didn't pay for haul-away service, contact your city service department about bulky waste pickup. They may require you to wrap the mattress in plastic before disposal.
Unusable metal bed frames can be recycled at a scrap metal yard. Some city service departments offer a special scrap metal drop-off or curbside collection for residents.
You can also take mattresses and box springs to a waste transfer station for disposal.
