Empty containers for cosmetics and personal care products can be recycled through TerraCycle®. TerraCycle® has teamed up with Garnier® to create the Personal Care and Beauty Brigade®, a free recycling program for hair care, skin care and cosmetic product packaging. The Solid Waste District is a host site for the brigade. Items can be dropped off in a marked collection bin in the District’s lobby at 4750 East 131 Street, Garfield Heights. Our hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.
We accept empty, clean, dry cosmetics packaging, including:
- shampoo bottles and caps
- conditioner bottles and caps
- hair gel tubes and caps
- hair spray bottles and triggers
- hair paste plastic jars and caps
- lip balm tubes
- face soap dispensers and tubes
- face lotion bottles
- tubes and plastic jars
- body wash containers
- soap tubes and dispensers
- body lotion dispensers and bottles
- shaving foam tubes (no cans)
- hand lotion bottles and tubes
- lipstick cases and lip gloss tubes
- mascara tubes
- eye shadow cases
- bronzer cases
- foundation packaging and bottles
- powder cases
- eyeliner cases and pencils
- eye shadow tubes
- concealer tubes and sticks
- lip liner pencils.
If you choose not to recycle your cosmetics items through a special collection or brigade, place them in the regular trash for disposal.
